Ayurvedic Medicinal Plants of Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's Ayurvedic tradition features a rich variety of medicinal plants used for centuries. Sri Lanka has a rich tradition of Ayurvedic medicine, drawing on its indigenous knowledge and a variety of medicinal plants. Here are some notable Ayurvedic medicinal plants found in Sri Lanka:
Tamarindus indica; සියඹලා
Ayurvedic medicine has shown that Tamarind(Tamarindus indica), also known by its botanical name Tamarindus indica, belongs to the genus Fabaceae and is very beneficial to the human body. There is no definite idea of the origin of this plant and it is said that the Greeks and Egyptians used the Tamarind(Tamarindus indica) plant between the 4th and 5th centuries BC. Tamarind(Tamarindus indica) is also said to have been used in India. This is due to the fact that the scientific name of Tamarind(Tamarindus indica) has been added to the indica. However, this plant grows as a large plant and can grow up to 80 feet in height. The seeds of this plant with clusters of yellow flowers are located in spiral spikes. The pods have a brown fleshy part with a sweet-sour taste. The flesh is also commonly used as a fruit and as a seasoning.

Medicinal use of Tamarindus indica:
