Caves
Sri Lanka is home to fascinating caves rich in history and natural beauty. The Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcases ancient Buddhist murals and statues. The Batadombalena and Fa Hien caves hold prehistoric significance, with evidence of early human habitation. These caves offer a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s cultural and geological heritage.
Pannila Cave
Pannila Cave or පන්නිල හුණුගල් ලෙන (Pannila Limestone Cave) is a karst cave which is reached on a hike from the Digandala-Pannila150Road. The descriptions we found so far are fuzzy and lack any competence, so we currently have no description of the cave. It is obviously a karst cave with stalactites and stalagmites, and quite similar to nearby Waulpane Cave. It has bats, numerous insects, a cave river with fish and frogs. We found several providers offering day trips for 400 to 500 USD, which is quite a lot. We often have problems interpreting such offers, but that seems pretty steep for a day tour, even with hotel pick-up.
