Sigiriya is a destination that is well known for its massive rock fortress and surrounding gardens while many tourists - local and foreign visit this marvel throughout the year. There are many activities that one could enjoy while exploring Sigiriya which includes hikes, nature walks in the day time and night and also even cycling through rural villages. One of the lesser known activities that you can enjoy is Loris watching which can be arranged with the help of a naturalist. Sam Popham’s Arboretum which is a botanical garden in Dambulla is home to many species of birds, dragonflies, mammals, including the slender loris who is a nocturnal primate native to India and Sri Lanka. A night walk in the garden will give you plenty of insight on some of the animals who roam in the night time.
